VI. Animate NatureWild Honey
Maurice Thompson (18441901)W
Out of the old dark forest come;
And pith is pierced, and bark is peeled;
Gives precious bitterness to the wind;—
As lurks the honey in the flower.
In nut of autumn’s ripening,
Sleeps the elixir, strong and old,
Life that renews itself again!
As fragrance of split tulip-wood?
Was rich as purple mulberry-juice?
Is like the rune from Nature caught?
Who loves wild thyme and honey-dew;
With morning freshness on his wings,
The pollen-dust of centuries!
