ATTRIBUTION: | Lord Salisbury was objecting to U.S. Secretary of State Richard Olneys interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine in Venezuelas boundary dispute with Great Britain. This interpretation, which maintained U.S. right to intervene in international disputes in the Western Hemisphere, is known as the Olney Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. |
