Mihály Tompa (1817–1868)

Tompa, Mihály (tōm’pä). A Hungarian poet; born at Rimaszombat, in the county of Gömör, 1817; died on July 30, 1868. He wrote: ‘Folk Tales and Popular Sayings’ (1846); several allegorical poems, among them ‘The Stork’ (1847), expressing the popular sympathy with the coming revolution; ‘Stories of the Flowers’ (1854); ‘Mathias Szuhay.’
