Carlo Gozzi (1720–1806)
Gozzi, Carlo, Count (got’sē). An Italian comedy-writer, brother of Gasparo; born in Venice, Dec. 13, 1720; died there (?), April 4, 1806. He was at first under French influence, but later turned his native folklore into delightful comedies, worked up with infinite cleverness. ‘The Love of the Three Oranges,’ ‘Lady Serpent,’ and ‘The Triumph of Friendship,’ may be mentioned.
