The Importance of Teaching English “In the world were over seven thousand languages have exisisted, one language had become dominate. This dominant language is English.” “In the majority of countries throughout the world speak English as their second or first language, no longer just America or England.” English has taken many forms, American English, the Queen’s English, Australian, Canadian English, and several others. Even American English has taken several types of English, Jersey English, East Coast English, West Coast English, Southern English, slang English, and Ebonics. All of these languages have major variants between them, but are all of them are still understood aboard. Without English the world couldn’t operate, …show more content…
In addition, lorry is their word for a truck. While their words are greatly differently then American words people from both countries would understand what the other was saying. While many of these of the types of English vary as much as American and British English, it is still understood around the world. Without there being English many of the Presidents, dictators, tyrants, and terrorist couldn’t understand each other. At all of their meeting there would have to be someone that spoke all of the languages that the members of the meeting spoke, or several translators which would make the it even more difficult. Also, with all the types of ethnic groups that are in America, there was to be one common language that everybody can understand. If America didn’t speak English, everybody in America, and around the world, would have to find one common language for the entire world to learn to speak. English was merely the easiest for everybody to pick up. “English can be traced back as far as the early 1100’s B.C.” “The Anglo-Saxons in England spread their language as many different enemies tried to take over England, but failed. They would force their prisoners to learn their language, and inter-grade themselves into society.” The language grew even more steadily as the criminals of England were being sailed all the way around the world to Australia. The criminals would be dropped off there and forced to learn
School has always been a place of business, in my opinion. A place where we are educated and prepared for life, essentially. And the proper way of doing so, as I believe most people have been taught, is to enhance all skills such as vocabulary, grammar, mathematics, etc... This is why we are taught so many subjects, being tested and guided to follow whichever path we feel most comfortable or skilled at doing. During the process, is where skills are established and developed. The product that is intended after having gone through school is to shape a well skilled, educated, and productive person that can benefit society as a whole. In limiting the teaching of Standard American English, we would be limiting the amount of people that can fulfill their potential, raise the difficulty for teachers, and accept mediocrity. In keeping this dialect, students will gain new skills and learn the language of business to prepare them for any encounters along the way. There is no need, in my eyes, to minimize or put an extent to teaching the English dialect and that is what I will personally support in this essay.
Many countries in Asia like China, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore etc., adopted English as a foreign language not as a second language. Because considering English as a second language and as a Foreign Language is different in their view point. They view that outside of the classroom, English is not that much useful. They teach all the subjects in their mother tongue but in India if one is unable to speak in English he becomes a tabooed person. Many Asian countries treat the pupil’s age, sex, race, attitude, intelligence and grasping power in teaching English. Indian teachers neglect this aspect. For ex: a speaker from Hyderabad emphasizes more vowels before many words because of the influence of Urdu. Straight – Istraight. And a Bihari pronounces ‘sh’ as ‘s’ because of the influence of Kharboli. Teachers don’t take into consideration of this aspect and mistreat students. So teachers have to choose the methodology as suit their classroom and environment. If teacher takes all the factors into consideration classroom becomes more meaningful. All the methods are not meaningful when teacher choose them as per the needs of the classroom.
The English Language has been in existence for many years. This is thanks to many early conquers who spoke the language. As a result, today English is used by “at least one out of every seven human beings around on the globe” (Lederer 216). With that many speakers, the reality in Lederer’s words that “half of the world’s
“One out of four of the world’s population speaks English to some level of competence” (NADRAG, TIHENEA, and STAN, 2013). It is well known that English is a globally used language and holding balance internationally, but after all how can we ‘dig deeper’ into it? Although undisputedly English is today’s international lingua franca, the comprehension of globalization of the English language of its historical origin, further consequences (to other non-English speaking nations), and trend of benefit with disadvantage might come more important than the language itself as it is practically being used daily and globally.
“This is the language of science, commerce, global politics, aviation, popular music, and above all, the internet,” (Source B). English has been around for many years and well-known worldwide. English speakers need not concern themselves with learning other languages, as speaking in foreign tongues is overly cumbersome, the time can be spent learning more useful skills, and English is spoken worldwide already.
English is an international language which has been received by countries all over the word. As an international language, English is used to communicate in business meeting or other activities among government over the world, chiefly in science and technology. In line with the more sophisticated world, people are demanded to be able to communicate not only by using mother tongue but also by using foreign languages. Nowadays English already be one of the most important languages.
The English has been around for more than a millennium and half. It derives from Latin, French, German, and Greek, and some unknown languages. Always keepin its speaker interested dragging more people to learn the language. The English language has undergone many transformations from Old English to Middle Age English to Modern English always policing itself. It has no dialect unlike Chinese, Russian, Arabic etc.. but different accents which can be hard to understand. It can be a major problem.
This same scenario has happened since the United States has become the world superpower. In areas such as commerce and science, it is almost non-negotiable that a person has to learn English to survive. The global climate dictates that there must be a single language which everyone can turn to as that spoken in a particular discipline. Because of the economic superiority of the United States over the past 50 years, and the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English is spoken by many people around the world.
In this paper, I argue if our modern-day society needs a global language such as English. English as a global language is necessary because it is more efficient, globalization, and most people already have some knowledge of English. English is of great importance in many places around the world, for this reason, it would be an excellent candidate to be the world’s lingua franca, or a global language.
More than one billion people in the world speak English. English is quickly becoming the dominant language by which the world communicates. It is being referred to as the global language because it is seen as a common means for interaction between different countries. Almost everywhere in the world you can find English: it is the most taught in the world and probably one of the the most commonly used languages by politicians all around the world. While this phenomenon can be seen in a positive thing by some people because the use of English as a common language brings efficiency and greater understanding internationally, others like myself, are not so certain because language and culture are closely connected,
The Treaty of Versailles that ended WWI was signed in 1919 in both French and English.
English is “the language of science, commerce, global politics, … [pop culture] and, above all, the internet” as David Thomas describes (Source B). The sheer influence that English has on the globe is staggering and continues to grow every day. While China and India are economic powerhouses with well over a billion people each, many of the citizens of these countries also speak, on some level, English. This yet again reduces the need for English speakers to learn the mother tongues of their business partners. In political discussions, specifically at the United Nations and the European Union, English is the dominant language with the UN even being criticized for relying heavily on English in their discussions and as source B states: English “has become the default tongue of the EU.” English is also a major influencer of global pop culture with many of the latest pop culture originating in English speaking countries such as music, where 45 of the top 50 songs globally are in English, to books such as the Hunger Games and Harry Potter, to television shows such as Game of Thrones. Without the influence of English, these pop culture phenomena would not have achieved the global success they have. With the continued rapid growth of foreigners learning the English language, the inverse in which English speaking natives are learning different
“English is now the dominant or official language in over 60 countries and is represented in every continent” (Crystal, 1997:106). It can therefore be understood that the English language is a vital means of communication for millions of people around the world.
English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on.

Teaching is made up of different important ingredients which are important for its success or failure; we have among them the methods of teaching, classroom management, teacher’s assessment and evaluation, students’ behaviors, classroom settings, and other conditional factors which are crucial for its completion. Before attending the training in this school, there were many elements that lead us to go there and many questions need answers. First as a student we have noticed before in our learning process in the secondary school that most of students neglect the subjects of the foreign languages such as English because of many factors. The aim therefore was to observe a class from the literary and the scientific stream to find out which stream is given much more importance to EFL learning. Second, as a would be teacher, we want to bridge the gap between theory and practice; that is to be trained for teaching in
