Neo-Liberalism versus Classic Liberalism Essay

Neo-liberalism is a belief of a free market where people can control their lives with as little regulation as possible. It is defined, by google definitions, as “a modified form of liberalism tending to favor free-market capitalism. It ties into the concept to the recent history of women’s groups in Canada because women had many more restrictions then men did and pressure on the government they eventually achieved their goal of equal rights.

We have all heard the terms “right wing conservatives” and “left wing liberals,” but many people are not quite sure which wing is correct. Although both sides have good arguments for separate issues, in my opinion, liberalism should be guiding our thinking when it comes to our economic ways, and political rights; liberalism is the root of our American soil. Many people believe that steering away from liberalism is the right way to create change, and build upon our freedoms, but by returning to what our country was built upon, we can continue the aim of a free, fair and prosperous society. This paper will guide you through the two main phases of liberalism: classical and modern; their manifestations; and how as a democracy, liberalism represents a strategy practical for a free society.

Democratic representatives scream about "right-wing conspiracy" while radio talk shows lament the evil of "liberal agenda." News broadcasters are branded as "chauvinist conservatives" by Hollywood pundits or "liberal bigots" by Christian broadcasting. Everywhere someone is firing the label gun plastering liberal or conservative on their opponents and many Americans are scratching their heads trying to understand the division and difference between both.

Liberalism is a powerful modern thrust which is not just an ideology, but has become more of a western understanding. The philosophy had set out principles in relation to the individual such as freedom, reason, justice, toleration and liberal democracy. A century later, there was the establishment of modern liberals. Modern liberalist ideas are similar to those of the classical liberals but, in some cases differ quite vigorously. It has been argued that modern liberals have betrayed the core, classical principles of liberalism.

Capitalism is one of the most important aspects of neoliberalism, it allows anyone to achieve their goals if they have the determination to follow it through.

To many people, neoliberalism seems to be a capitalism-associated word that is often refer to what is going on in the US. Although neoliberalism has its deep root among western countries such as the US and many others in the EU, China as a socialism country, has its unique take on neoliberalism. In this paper, I will be discussing how neoliberalism emerge in the west and how it become the neoliberalism that is practiced in China.
