1. Describe a historical figure or group’s participation in your historical event. An influential historical figure behind the Stonewall Rebellion was Storme DeLarverie. She was present at the Stonewall Inn. She was known as the butch lesbian and was among those the ignited the uprising at the inn. Before taking part in the Rebellion, Delarverie was a drag performer, and in her performances, she was dressed in suits and ties, identifying herself as a lesbian. DeLarverie helped in inciting the rebellion was given the name, "Rosa Parks of Stonewall." During the night of the uprising, DeLarverie was arrested several times, but she escaped; in one instance, she punched an officer and ran away. In another instance, she complained to an officer that her handcuffs were tight; the officer ignored her and began inciting the people around "to do something," and that is how the uprising began. The LGBTQ community continues to celebrate DeLarverie for her courage and her actions that brought freedom.
