Painter, William. An English writer and compiler of stories after the manner of Boccaccio; born about 1540; died in Feb. 1593–4. His most famous book is ‘The Palace of Pleasure’ (2 vols., 1566–67), consisting of stories taken from the ‘Heptameron,’ from Bandello, and other Italian story-tellers.
