Karl Biedermann (1812–1901)

Biedermann, Karl (bē’der-män). A German historian and publicist; born in Leipsic, Sept. 25, 1812; died in 1901. His influence in public affairs, although indirect, was considerable; and as a writer of literary and philosophical history he struck out a path of his own with ‘Germany in the Eighteenth Century’ (2d ed. in part, 1880); ‘German Philosophy from Kant’s Day to Our Own’ (1842–43); ‘Thirty Years of German History, 1840–1870’ (2d ed. 1883); and many other allied studies.
