John Florio (1553?1625)
Florio, John. An English philologist and grammarian; born in London about 1553 of Italian parents; died at Fulham, England, in 1625. He is best known for his English translation of ‘Montaigne’s Essays’ (1603). Among his other works are: ‘A Perfect Induction of the Italian and English Tongues,’ and an ‘Italian and English Dictionary,’ published under the title of ‘A World of Words.’
