Ignaz Durdevic (16751737)
Durdevic, Ignaz (jôr’jich). A Dalmatian poet and scholar; born in Ragusa, Feb. 13, 1675; died there, Jan. 21, 1737. He was abbot of the Benedictine monastery on the island of Meleda. Of his poems, ‘The Sighs of the Penitent Magdalen’ is the most deserving of mention. ‘Marunko i Pavica’ is the humorous story of two Venetian youths, and ‘The Slav Psalter’ is a hymnal.
