Goronwy Owen (17231769?)
Owen, Goronwy. A Welsh poet; born in Anglesea, North Wales, Jan. 1, 1723; died in St. Andrews parish, Brunswick County, VA, 1769?. He became rector of Uppington, Shropshire, in 1745; and while there wrote his celebrated poem ‘The Day of Judgment.’ He came to the United States in 1775; married, and held a position at William and Mary College. He is described as the last of the great poets of Wales.
