François Arago (1786–1853)
Arago, Dominique François (är-ä-gō’). An eminent French astronomer and physicist; born near Perpignan, Feb. 26, 1786; died in Paris, Oct. 2, 1853. Brother of Étienne and Jacques Arago. His biographical notices of distinguished men of science hold a high place in literature. English translations of separate portions of his works have been published, notably his ‘Autobiography’; ‘Popular Lectures on Astronomy’; ‘Meteorological Essays’; and ‘Biographies of Scientific Men.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
