Ferdinand Christian Baur (1792–1860)

Baur, Ferdinand Christian (bour). A German theologian of eminence; born in Schmiden, near Stuttgart, June 21, 1792; died at Tübingen, Dec. 2, 1860. The profundity not only of his learning but of his intellectual insight made him the founder of a new school of theology, the classics of which are his ‘History of the Doctrine of the Atonement’ (1838) and ‘The Christian Dogma of the Trinity and Incarnation’ (1843), although every one of his numerous works is of great authority.
