Elihu Benjamin Washburne (18161887)
Washburne, Elihu Benjamin. An American statesman; born in Maine, 1816; died in 1887. He was made minister to France by President Grant, and remained at his post in Paris during the Commune, a fact which imparts special interest to his ‘Recollections of a Minister to France—1869–77’ (1887).
