Corinna (Sixth Century B.C.)

Corinna (kō-rin’ä). A famed Greek poet; born at Tanagra, Bœotia, about 500 B.C. She was a contemporary of Pindar, sometimes his competitor for poetical prizes. She was celebrated for her beauty, and nicknamed “The Fly” to distinguish her from another poet called “The Bee.” Only fragments of her poems have been preserved.
