Today it is in our best interest to encourage everyone’s potential by dedicating ourselves to the continual improvement of our own abilities and those of the people with whom we work and live. Total Quality is, essentially, a win-win approach which works to everyone’s ultimate advantage. According to Deming, no human being should ever evaluate another human being. Therefore, TQM emphasizes self-improvement process. In addition, this principle also laminates to the focusing on students’ strengths, individual learning styles, and different types of intelligences. A System of Ongoing Process The third pillar of TQM as applied in education is the recognition of the organization as a system and the work done within the organization must be seen as an ongoing process. The primary implication of this principle is that individual students and teachers are less to blame for failure than the system in which they work. Quality speaks to working on the system, which must be examined to identify and eliminate the flawed processes that allow its participants to fail. Since systems are made in the quality of those processes largely determine the quality of the resulting product. In the new paradigm of learning , continual improvement of learning outcomes replaces the outdated “teach and test” mode. According to Total Quality Management (TQM) (2013, pg 1), “Total quality management (TQM) can help a school monitor and evaluate its effectiveness. There are various TQM models, but they all have a common focus on customer satisfaction and continuous service improvement toward excellence. For schools, the customer is the student.” When a Total Quality Management (TQM) is implemented in an institution it can set it apart from the other institutions. It formulates task teams to manage the institution compared to having a chain of command. An effective Total Quality Management (TQM) institution “Mission Statement” is the foundation of the education process.
The concept of total quality management (TQM) has been applied to education, most notably by Edward Sallis. In attempting to apply quality management to education, however, Sallis proposes a compelling reason for why TQM should be applied to education, and that is, accountability”.
40 years ago, Donabedian by observing the structure, the process and the results suggested that measures the quality of care. Structural measures are health insurance, hospital bed capacity and advanced education and access to resources such as the number of nurses, availability, and quality assessment. The process measurements are evaluated by the delivery of health care providers, such as clinical and using the guidelines for the treatment of diabetes. Measurement result shows the final result of health care, and can be influenced by the action and environmental factors. For example, mortality, patient satisfaction, and an improved state.
Improving Quality means reducing bad quality and improving the work efficiency of the work in organisation. The last decade of the twentieth century brought great development to the world and especially it has introduced new techniques and ideas to improve the business world. Subsequently, in the decade of 1990s the business world was revolutionized with the quality management technique in business. It was the time when the businesses started to embrace the concept of quality and so they started to use it as a competitive advantage (Abusa, 2013).
To identifying and looking to rectify an error, it has to investigate the root source of the predicament. The procedure is alluded to as the root cause scrutiny. The rationale of the investigation is to annihilate or correct the source, thus preventing the inveterate of the predicament. The procedure should be done on an everyday basis. With TQM, Businesses starts to do the right thing from the start and to ensure zero error. Therefore, it is important to learn the principle of TQM and how it acts in organizations with its advantages and disadvantages.
Due to the increasing pace at which life operated, businesses in many industries had become reliant upon creating a quick product, not necessarily evaluating if quick was necessarily going to result positively. Over the last two decades, among various industry lines, it became more commonly understood that quality management may help organizations to repeat work less often, as the initial product or service that was delivered, was of a higher caliber, resulting favorably for the company as well as for the client. Quality management has now become a more regularly used practice throughout all phases of projects, allowing project managers to operate with a clear, defined process, and letting upper management determine if work should stop short for the sake of time, not sacrificing the quality of what has been completed.
