The Beginning of Slavery in United States.
The history of slavery began in 1619, when in the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, landed a Dutch ship, "White Lion", with twenty enslaved Africans who were captured in a battle with a Spanish ship. The Dutch ship was damaged, so people needed to stay and repair their ship. They also needed food and supplies. Therefore, they decided to sell Africans to the colonists as indentured slaves. In that time began a new period in colonist 's life called The Great Migration, which was a period when the population of the colony grew from 450 to 4000 people. But people faced some problems like disease, malnutrition and war with Indians. Colonies desperately needed laborers. The solution of this problem was indentured servants. Indentured servants are people, who work for food, clothes and shelter, for certain period of time. Indentured servants were not only Africans, a large majority of them were also Germans, Irish, Scottish and English. The laborers were very important, because colonists needed gather crop, build buildings and do other work to make live colonists more easy. (History of slavery in America)

For over 2,000 years, slavery has been conducted in various parts of the world. From year 1500 to year 1900, Europeans stole individuals from West Africa, West Central Africa, and Southeast Africa and shipped them to the different parts of the Atlantic. This process dehumanized them of their identity. Europeans stole husbands, wives, merchants, blacksmiths, farmers, and even children. They removed them from their homelands and gave them new names: slaves. European slaveholders never thought to take ownership of their actions by killing humans with brutality and degradation. Slave trade was considered popular in England and soon after more countries began the process of taking slaves to newly claimed territories. These countries include

In the essay "The Evolution of Slavery in Colonial America," author Jon Butler examines the growth of the slave practice in the land which would become the United States. As the European nations began exploring North America, they overtook the native populations of the areas and turned them into unpaid laborers. However, these people were not enough to supply landholders with sufficient aid. To make up the necessary numbers, plantation owners utilized indentured servants and then a number of slaves imported from Africa. Indentured servants were people who would be taken from the Old World to the New in order to start a new life. However, since they would not have the necessary funds to pay for their transportation, their journey would be funded by either a manufacturer or a plantation owner and their debt would be paid off by working for their benefactor. Slaves were not given this opportunity. These were people who were taken from their homes and families and forced into labor by threat of violence or death. This practice did not begin in the United States, but America was still allowing slavery well into the 19th century, long after other nations had come to the conclusion that slavery was inhumane and brutal.
Slavery began in the late 16th century to early 18th century. Africans were brought to American colonies by white masters to come and work on their plantations in the South. They were treated harshly with no payments for all their hard work. In addition, they lived under harsh living conditions, and this led to their resistance against these harsh conditions. The racism towards the African Americans who were slaves was at its extreme as they did not have any rights; no civil nor political rights.

Slavery is a system in which human beings can be owned by other people and are treated effectively like property in the eyes of the law. Slavery was introduced to the colonies in 1619, at Jamestown, Virginia, where unskilled workers were needed to farm tobacco (“Slavery(Issue)”) . The South needed slaves more due them having a more agricultural lifestyle. However, the North, which was based upon manufacturing and trading and basically no slaves by the time of the Constitution. During that time, indentured servants were more popular due to less expense and danger than the slaves. However, after the invention of Eli Whitney’s cotton gin, which established cotton as a lucrative
Colonist started to import slaves from South America in hopes that they would live longer and be more manageable to control. The slaves that were imported were trained past their first year of slavery, so that they would not die as fast. The first imported slaves came to America in the early 17th century. When they received the slaves they found out some of them were baptized, and were under the Christian religion. So they could not be treat as slaves under the religion so they were turned into “indentured servants”. There weren’t many laws on slavery, but there was no way

The enslaved men and women grew sugarcane and cash crops on plantations.Because of slavery, after a while, slavery became "the norm". Ever since then, slavery had a whole new meaning to it. When the Spanish and the Portuguese came to
Slavery in america began in the 17th century in Virginia. Slaves were being transported to america through the triangular trade. The triangular trade was a process in which africans were captured and traded for rum and other goods from england to africa. Slaves were packed in an unsanitary and crowded ship, they were treated poorly. The 18th century was the busiest period for the slave trade. More than 6 million africans were enslaved and transported to the new world. Document C illustrates how slavery spread throughout the united states, document c also shows that slavery in the north had decreased, it was mostly due to the fact that they were industrializing and they didn’t need slaves. The south, however used slaves because they were agricultural. they produced a lot of cotton, and many other cash crops and needed slaves to work their farms.
The introduction of slaves allowed for the Colonies to better control and easily identify their labor force. Indentured Servitude was the leading labor force in the New World until the early 1700’s. It was essentially a person who was to work under contract for a definite period of time. Many of the indentured servants were Europeans who wanted to come to the New World but did not have the funds to do so. So they came with colonists and were guranteed passage to the new world in exchange for work.

Once traded, the Africans were entered into limited periods of indentured servitude and joined the colonies workforce, which had roughly one thousand English indentured servants (Slavery in the United States, 2011).
