Behavioral Disorders One of the key responsibilities as an educator is to help students learn. A major problem when trying to accomplish this goal is managing classroom behaviors. It is challenging for an educator to teach in a chaotic environment. As a result, teachers seek different routes to manage these behaviors. This research was designed to give layouts and strategies on making the management of these behaviors easier. The first behavior that will be discussed is tattle-telling. The Webster Dictionary defines tattling as “ telling a parent, teacher, etc., about something bad or wrong that another child has done. Presuming how to deal with what we regularly call “tattle-tattling” can take a lot of time and unnecessary …show more content…
It often takes the form of threats, intimidation, repeated cruelty, and/or forcing someone against his or her will to do what the bully wants (Linsin, Bullying In The Classroom: The Ultimate Guide To Stopping It, 2011). One common goal for all teachers is to make sure you are protecting each students right to learn. It is important to know your school’s policy on bullying, so you will be able to relate it to the students and the parents. Also, every school has their on policy you have to abide by. Weebly’s Classroom Management Site gives a couple of tips to help teachers out with bullying: * It is important that the teacher builds a community in the classroom. This way all students feel safe and valued. A good way to build a community in the classroom is through team building exercises. The class will learn how to communicate effectively and how to problem solve. * Another method is through community discussions. Have a classroom meeting every Friday to discuss issues that students are encountering in the class. Then as a class come up with solutions to how they can solve the problems and prevent them from happening again (Weebly). One major problem in the classroom is dealing with students who are poor at following directions. You give directions and one third of your class either performed the task incorrectly or they do not know what is going on at all. There are many
According to the American Psychological Association, “Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words or more subtle actions” (Bullying, 2013). People bully each other for several reasons and there are different outcomes that are a result of those reasons. People can be bullied physically, emotionally, or verbally. Bullying can take place at school or online. Bullying should be a considered a crime, but kids get away with it all the time; furthermore prevention can be used in order to keep kids safe from bullying.
What have you noticed in your students to make you want to address this problem?
Another important issue for me has been that each student participates in classroom discussion, that each student has a voice. This is a practice I think is important not because every student has something valuable to say (this is not always so), but often students who do have meaningful comments to contribute are silent. In my classes, everyoneís voice is heard as students read paragraphs which may explore a particular issue. The do not have the
Good classroom and behaviour management is essential for a lesson to run smoothly. Knowing how to anticipate and manage problems will ensure that students spend maximum time on task, and those students who are eager to learn are
Bullying takes many forms. It can be physical, verbal or emotional, but it is always a repeated behaviour that makes other people feel uncomfortable or threatened. Examples of the policy at my placement is as follows:
Bullying is defined as “verbal, physical, or psychological abuse or teasing accompanied by real or perceived imbalance of power” and is usually targets what children perceive as different (Olweus, 1993). Bullying is prevalent across the nation. It has devastating effects on students each day. Bullying is a problem for all students, regardless of race, gender or class. The National Education Association reports that 160,000 children are absent intentionally from school each day because they fear being bullied whether it is an attack or just intimidation by other students. This accounts for 15% of all school absenteeism (Hunter, 2012). Dan Olweus (1993) from the National School Safety Center tells us that bullying includes three parts: (1)

Bullying is bound to happen anywhere at any time but occurs mostly within school limits. Kathleen Winkler defines bulling in her book, Bullying, as “...any kind of ongoing physical or verbal mistreatment, done with the intent to harm, where there is an imbalance of power between bully and victim” (Winkler 14). Bullying has an extremely important impact on one’s everyday life and can affect their life negatively getting to the point where they can no longer take the blow. To try and prevent bullying from taking place in schools, one needs to know how bullying effects a person, what the role of each person involved in the situation is, and have knowledge of specific methods on how to prevent it. Bullying in schools is a serious problem and a handful of school do their part to prevent it; others, not as much, which means there is room for improvements.
There are many roles that individuals can play when it comes to bullying. Some participate in bullying others. Others are the victims of bullying, and sometimes they might be both, bullied and bullies. Bullies search for any reasons to pick on or ridicule their victims which put them in a position of power. Victims can take control, but this will require adult intervention. When victims are made to feel loved, respected and
One of every five students is bullied each year (Bullying Basics,2017). Knowing that the problem of bullying is a large possibility in their classrooms, administrators’ and teachers’ main goal must be to offer a safe classroom and a positive, supportive learning environment to their students. If they work together to reach this goal, bullying can be
Teachers are not only expected to teach their students, but also provide an environment where everyone feels safe and can learn. Classroom management is a very important part of teaching. Students cannot learn in an unsafe, disruptive environment. This paper will discuss the strategy of SHAPING, how it is used to modify a student’s behavior, and give an example of how to modify a student’s behavior. This paper will also discuss my personal beliefs about classroom management, share rules and expectations for the classroom, rewards for individuals and the class, designing the classroom where the teacher is visible and there are no distractions, and discuss some classroom procedures and how they contribute to classroom management
Bullying is often associated with students oppressing one student by another student within a school. There are also cases where teachers are the ones who oppress their students, cases in which are captured in videos and broadcasted by the media. However, that is not always the case. Teachers can sometimes be the victim of bullying by their students. Bullying, as defined by BullyingStatistics.org, is an act of one person using strength or status to contravene, whether with insults, threats, physical harm, etc.
When it comes to problems in education, lack of student support is the first that comes to mind. As a student interested in becoming a teacher, the first thing I would want to do with my students is a build a relationship with them. I would do this by playing creative games, doing group work, and showing students that I value them and all their efforts. I would also make it clear what expectations I have for them and articulate these standards to their parents. Hopefully, by getting their parents involved right away, students would feel supported right off the back and work towards a brighter
Bullying is a big issue in the world these days. It is our job as teachers to address this issue in our classroom and teach children that bullying is not ok.
