The first skill that I think will require more practice is allowing silence. For instance, I think I need to be less focused on thinking about my next question. I think silence will allow me to reflect more on what the client stated in the discussion. In addition, the client will be able to gather his or her thoughts with more silence. I did allow some silence in the interview but I think I could have done that more because I did cut off the client once when she was communicating. Appropriate listening and understanding skills are vital to achieving customer satisfaction. When addressing a consumer, it is important to fully comprehend their wants and needs. This in turn will allow their requests to be fulfilled effectively and result in positive feedback as well as customer loyalty. Successfully listening and anticipating a client’s needs demonstrate sincerity whilst improving the business’ image and building a sense of appreciation within the customer.

One of the first things I learned this week is the importance of listening when talking to clients. If you talk to them like you are a robot and don’t have any personality, or worse, not be adaptive to what they are saying then they are not going to give you the time of day. Another important thing I learned is the LACE acronym. Dave taught me this when dealing with people who want to send you to HR. You listen to what they are saying, acknowledge what they are saying, clarify what they said (can be optional), and then explain yourself and what you are trying to do. I have implemented this strategy in real calls and it truly works and has kept me from being blown off to HR. This
