A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin Earthsea, a vast archipelago, is a place filled with magical wonders that are only myth to the human world, and it is here where the story takes place. First, we have Ged the protagonist of the story. Ged in the beginning of the book was an easily tempered, impatient young man. Even so he was always eager to learn new things. However, as the story progressed Ged learns to become more humble, patient, and low-tempered. Next is Ged’s ‘shadow’, a creation of Ged’s ignorance. The ‘shadow’ has no shape, and after Ged brought it form an unknown realm, it almost killed Ged. Last but not least is Vetch, a very good friend of Ged’s. Vetch, as a child, was very light-hearted and cared about the well-being of …show more content…
However, there is no specified time in which the story takes place. Furthermore, there are many events that happened that influence how the story is to take place. First of all, there is the exposition, which is the very beginning of the story where characters are introduced. It is here that we discover that Ged’s first name is Duny, and that Ged’s mother died less than a year after he was born. Next is the rising action, but many things could be considered as the rising action in this story as well as many others. Examples of rising action in this story would be the time Ged, as an twelve year old, scared off the karg army, the time Ged summoned the ‘shadow’ that severely injured him, or even when Ged’s pet was killed. The climax of any story is the point of the story where the most suspense is felt, this is usually where the biggest conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist happens. The climax of the story would be where Ged, accompanied by Vetch, chases his ‘shadow’ towards the sea where there is nothing but seawater, but he ends up on a sandy beach, an illusion created by the ‘shadow’. Afterwards comes the falling action of a story, if the story has one. The falling action of the story is when Ged’s ‘shadow’ disappeared, meaning the sandy beach disappeared, and Vetch saves his friend, Ged, from drowning. Next is the resolution, this is where the conflict of the story is resolved. In this

Events contributing to rising action – Liesel’s brother’s death on the train when they were on their way to the Hubermann’s home. When Liesel stole the Gravedigger’s Handbook at her brother’s funeral. When Liesel moved into her new home. At Hitler’s party when Liesel stole a book. When Max took shelter in Liesel’s home. All these events led up to the main climax.
He started moving north stopping island after island, facing dragons, sailing boats, and being stranded on an island. Everywhere he went something went wrong, at this point he went to Ogion, his master, for help. Ogion told him that he would not defeat the shadow if he kept acting like the runner, after that Ged became the hunter. While looking for his enemy, he ran across his old friend Vetch, he insisted that he came along with Ged to defeat the shadow. The two set off following the shadow to the unknown lands. They stopped on a small island before entering the seas, which have never been returned from. The people on the island were very hospitable, but Ged knew they couldn’t stay long before something went wrong. The next morning left the island sailing towards the shadow, and Ged was confident that he could

What loose ends are wrapped up? Some events help lead the protagonist to a resolution for their internal or external conflict. Some of the falling action may seem like rising action. The falling action of the story was when they found out that they found a planet, and when they had to say goodbye to each other.

In A Wizard of Earthsea, Ged’s first meeting with his shadow was a terrifying experience, especially as a child. Ged’s shadow is released as a result of performing an evil spell that puts his flawed traits into a physical form. The evil trait that was released as his shadow was Ged’s disobedience, because he went against his master, Ogion, and performed a spell. Ged’s shadow is first seen in a dark, demonic form. Their first real confrontation was described by one of Ged’s friends witnessing their encounter:
