The three principles of good design that I chose to use are: Good design is honest. It doesn't pretend a product is better than it is or makes false promises to trick customers. Good design is long-lasting. It doesn't follow passing trends and stays useful for long, even when things are often thrown away quickly. Good design is environmentally-friendly. It tries to use fewer resources and not create a mess during the product's entire life (Rams, 2023). Problem Statement Non-stick cookware is often green-washed or marketed as “healthy" due to the absence of the traditional PFOA (Teflon) coating. However, there is vast research and proof that any non- stick coating, despite claims of safety, still pose health risks and potentially contribute to many diseases including cancer. Requirement
I want to analyze the types of non-stick cookware in the US and find the least hazardous option for the environment. Analysis For this add-on exercise, I chose to analyze four more types of cookware in the US, that are marketed as “non-stick” adding up to a total of eight non-stick types. I couldn’t find real data points and so I created a hypothetical dataset based on my research of these coatings/ materials. For the final analysis, a combination of the scores for environmental impact, health hazard and durability of non-stick cookware was calculated. The first graph is of Week 2’s exercise and the second graph is for Week 3 with four additional non-stick types. Just because Teflon has the highest bar does not mean it is the best coating.
