Shontell Parker ENG 123 Professor Timaree Marston 7 May 2023 Persuasive Arguments In the educational system potential issues and concerns come up in terms of students; these concerns normally ask a question what is helpful or hurtful. My choices for both issues are based on the well-being of students in school and what helps them develop academically and emotionally. My first issue is the outlook on reward and punishments. Is it helpful to students or harmful to their emotional wellness? According to an article, Rewards versus Learning, rewards are controlling, ineffective and less appealing. Students may get over earning rewards which may make the reward system ineffective and unappealing. In their review of the literature on student motivation, Pintrich and Schrauben came to the conclusions that the value of an outcome to the student influences that student's motivation level; motivation level influences intellectual engagement, which manifests itself in the use of different learning strategies. If improving incentive motivation alone improves academic performance, suitable learning methods have been effectively engaged cognitively (Tuckman, 1996). The second topic is the effectiveness of blended learning in the schooling system; does it aid in brain development, or does it cause more distraction? Blended learning increases the amount of time students spend on a task, develops their comprehension of information skills,
sparks their interest before a session, or gives them the option to work at their own pace after the course. These are top issues that most children and teachers have trouble with (Vilo & Taha, 2023). For example, teachers time management with a student who takes a little longer completing an assignment that their other classmates have completed minutes before by discourage that slower paced student and cause embarrassment or negative behaviors. Blended learning can be a positive thing for the teacher to help manage the students and give each student the help they need in their struggling areas. On the other hand, blended learning can cause teachers to become complacent and lazy or harder for teacher to help each student because of different struggle areas it is harder for the teacher to spend an adequate amount of time because of the varies educational levels and needs of other students. According to my research, some viewpoints on rewarding or punishing students are control mechanisms. Saying, "Do this, and you will receive that," is a method for controlling people, Alfie Kohn, author, remarked. It is a strategy for working against students in the classroom rather than alongside them" (Kohn, 1993). This is partially true. In accordance with Google the definition of controlling is the assesses performance regarding standards, spotting errors, and implementing corrective actions to achieve set objectives. It is accurate to say that we are reviewing, making corrections, and achieving set goals. I contend that educational requirements must be met to keep progressing. Being a teacher at a social and emotional school means using rewards, reinforcements, and other incentives to inspire students and establish routines. This topic is significant to my audience since it will describe how incentives and reinforcements are helpful resources for our student population. Additionally, it will transform
